While searching for a couple who disappeared in 1970, the Chaos Divers group from southern Illinois has discovered nearly 100 cars submerged in the Chicago river. Edward and Stefanie Andrews vanished on 15/5/1970 after leaving a dinner party, prompting Chaos Divers to investigate whether their vehicle ended up in the river that night.
As of the afternoon of September 4th, the team has located 97 vehicles and expects to surpass 100 soon. "Every time we go down to look for more cars, we just find more," said Lindsay Bussick, a member of Chaos Divers.
Chaos Divers is a sonar-equipped search and rescue dive team that travels throughout the US, searching for missing persons who may have been in their vehicles when they disappeared, possibly underwater.

"Knowing the history of Chicago, we were expecting to find cars, but the sheer volume is surprising," Bussick remarked.
The Andrews' yellow car has not yet been found. However, Chaos Divers hopes their discovery might help solve other missing persons cases in Chicago. The team plans to continue their search until September 8th before moving on to another case.
Chicago police have not yet commented on the discovery of the vehicles. It remains unclear whether the cars are connected to any criminal investigations or missing persons reports.
