Fireworks lit up the sky at the Wonsan Kalma resort in Kangwon province on North Korea's east coast during its grand opening on 24/6.
North Korean media described it as a "world-class" coastal tourist city, "where over 400 artistically designed buildings line the white sand beach, creating a perfect combination." North Korea's population is approximately 26.5 million.

Kim Jong-un hailed the resort as one of the country's greatest achievements this year. "The Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist area should play a leading role in laying the foundation for North Korea's tourism culture," Kim said, instructing those in charge of the resort to provide the best comfort and entertainment for visitors.
