Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse will make a state visit to South Korea from 10/8-13/8, at the invitation of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and his spouse. General Secretary To Lam is President Lee Jae-myung's administration's first foreign guest. This is also General Secretary To Lam's first state visit to South Korea in his new capacity.
"The fact that the South Korean side invited General Secretary To Lam to visit as the first 'state guest' shows their respect for the relationship with Vietnam as well as for the General Secretary personally," Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu said in an interview published today.
Mr. Vu affirmed that Vietnam and South Korea are two leading partners in many fields, such as politics, security, national defense, economics, trade, investment, tourism, labor, and people-to-people exchanges. This will be an opportunity for the two sides to engage in in-depth strategic discussions, identifying directions and measures to develop the bilateral relationship substantively, comprehensively, and effectively.
Speaking about the significance of the visit, the deputy foreign minister said, "The visit will open up new areas of cooperation such as science, technology, and digital innovation, including semiconductors and artificial intelligence. The two countries also have the opportunity to strengthen cooperation in sharing experiences and developing cultural technology, contributing practically to the people and business communities of both countries."

Science, technology, and innovation are among the areas of cooperation that both sides expect to become new pillars of the bilateral relationship.
The two countries have achieved many encouraging results in this field, including the National Innovation Center Development Support Project, the Vietnam - Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) project in Hoa Lac, and the Can Tho Technology Incubator.
After more than 30 years since establishing diplomatic relations and upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the relationship between Vietnam and South Korea has become a model of a special, effective, and substantive relationship across many fields.
South Korea is currently Vietnam's largest investor and third-largest trading partner. Vietnam is a top priority partner for South Korea's development assistance.
Cooperation in culture, education, labor, tourism, and other areas has also witnessed significant achievements, constantly innovating both in quantity and quality. Cooperation in labor and people-to-people exchanges continues to develop, meeting the needs of both sides.
There are currently more than 350,000 Vietnamese people in South Korea and more than 200,000 South Koreans in Vietnam, including more than 100,000 multicultural families and about 100 localities of the two sides with friendly people-to-people exchange relationships.
"The results achieved during this visit will be the driving force and inspiration for Vietnam and South Korea to inherit, promote, and elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, contributing to the cause of building and developing each country, for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world," Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu said.
