French President Emmanuel Macron's motorcade was delayed on 22/9 after leaving the United Nations headquarters in New York City following his address to the General Assembly recognizing the State of Palestine. The motorcade was stopped due to road closures in place for US President Donald Trump.
Video footage captured by French journalists shows Macron attempting to persuade a police officer to allow his motorcade to proceed if Trump's had not yet arrived.
"I'm really sorry, Mr. President, all the roads are currently blocked," the officer said.
Macron then called Trump. "How are you? Guess what, I'm waiting on the street because all the roads are blocked for your arrival," Macron said.
The French president ended up walking for 30 minutes through Manhattan toward the French embassy, continuing his phone conversation with Trump, a source close to Macron confirmed.
Macron appeared unfazed by the incident, smiling and taking photos with passersby.
One man kissed him on the forehead while taking a picture. The security detail seemed concerned, but Macron reassured them: "It's okay, everyone".
