At the invitation of the Chinese government, prime minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit as a guest of the host country and work in China from 31/8 to 1/9, according to an August 27 announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The SCO, founded in 2001 in Shanghai, is a Eurasian political, economic, and security organization. Its six original members are Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan joined in 2017, Iran in 2023, and Belarus in 2024.

China was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on 18/1/1950. The two countries established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2008 and elevated it to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in 2023, promoting the building of a Community with a Shared Future with strategic significance.
Vietnam and China have increased high-level exchanges and contacts between leaders. In trade, in 2024, Vietnam maintained its position as China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and fourth-largest national trading partner (after the US, Japan, and South Korea).
Two-way trade in 2024 reached 205.2 billion USD, a 19.3% increase. In the first seven months of 2025, bilateral trade reached 136.47 billion USD.
Regarding investment, in 2024, China ranked first in the number of new investment projects with 955 projects, accounting for 28.3%, and third in total registered capital with 4.73 billion USD (after Singapore and South Korea), a 3.1% increase. In the first seven months of 2025, China ranked first in new investment projects with 695, accounting for 30.83%, and second in total registered capital with 2.27 billion USD (after Singapore).
Last year, Vietnam welcomed 3.74 million Chinese tourists, a 114% increase compared to 2023, accounting for 21.26% of total international visitors to Vietnam, second only to South Korea. In the first seven months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed over 3.1 million Chinese visitors, accounting for 25.5% of all international tourists.
