At the government headquarters today, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife met with Vietnamese female diplomats, UN resident coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis, female ambassadors, charges d'affaires, and heads of international organizations in Vietnam.
The event took place on the UN's International Day of Women in Diplomacy, 24/6, leading up to the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's diplomatic service.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that in Vietnamese culture, women play a pivotal role, being the most important figures in the family. Vietnamese women have always been valued and are now given equal access to all societal roles.

The prime minister stated that Vietnam is ranked among the top 10 countries in achieving Goal 5 on promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The proportion of female representatives in Vietnam's 15th National Assembly is 30.26%, higher than the world and regional averages, and ranks first in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
Vietnam is also among the leading countries in the rate of female participation in peacekeeping operations, at 16%. Vietnam is one of the few countries in the world with two days in the year to honor women: International Women's Day on 8/3 and the founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women's Union on 20/10.
The prime minister affirmed that Vietnam highly values the contributions of women and has many female heroes in labor, combat, and production, including female diplomats. He highlighted former foreign minister and former vice president Nguyen Thi Binh, as well as other outstanding female diplomats.

Commenting on the pioneering role of Vietnamese female diplomats, Pauline Tamesis emphasized that Vietnamese women have made significant contributions in many fields, especially contributing to Vietnam being a beacon of peace and progress.
In just a decade, Vietnam has significantly improved its ranking on the global gender equality index, strongly promoting the UN's agenda on gender equality and women's rights.

Romanian ambassador to Vietnam Cristina Romila affirmed that Vietnam is a very friendly country that always encourages women to participate in all fields and professions. She emphasized that she is always welcomed by close friends despite the geographical distance and cultural differences.
"Vietnam is not only a beautiful country worth exploring, but also a very friendly, open, and progressive society for women," Ambassador Romila stated.
