A 20-year-old inmate escaped from Corbas prison in Rhone, southeastern France, on July 11, French prison authorities reported on 12/7. "He took advantage of a fellow inmate's release, hiding in their luggage to successfully escape," the authorities stated.
The escapee's identity has not been released. He was serving multiple sentences and is also under investigation for organized crime.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into organized escape and gang involvement. The prison administration also confirmed an internal inquiry following the escape.
Corbas prison is experiencing increasing overcrowding. As of 1/5/2025, it held approximately 1,218 inmates, exceeding its maximum capacity of 678.
