Russian President Vladimir Putin was participating in the "Strong Ideas for a New Time" forum in Moscow on 3/7. While answering a question from an attendee, he apologized to the audience, explaining that he had to take a call from US President Donald Trump because "it wouldn't be polite" to keep his American counterpart waiting.
"He might be offended," Putin said, drawing laughter from the audience.
The call between the Russian and US leaders lasted almost an hour and focused on the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. President Putin stated that Russia would not abandon its objectives in the Ukraine campaign but was ready to continue negotiations. He also suggested that conflicts in the Middle East should be resolved through diplomatic means.
The two leaders also affirmed their desire for joint economic projects, particularly in the energy and space sectors. The US decision to halt military aid to Ukraine was not mentioned in the call.
This was the 6th call between Putin and Trump since Trump returned to the White House in January. Trump stated that "no progress" was made in resolving the conflict and that he was "not satisfied" with the situation in Ukraine.
