The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) announced today that Lyubomir Korba, born in 1960, and his accomplice Viktor Vasin have been interrogated and "confessed to their crimes." Korba, a Russian citizen of Ukrainian origin, was allegedly promised 30,000 US dollars by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) to assassinate general Alekseyev. The FSB also accused Polish intelligence of involvement in Korba's recruitment.
According to testimony released by the FSB, Korba was recruited by the SBU in august 2025 in Ternopil, western Ukraine. He underwent firearms training at a shooting range in Kiev and received monthly payments in cryptocurrency. His mission involved monitoring senior military officers in the Moscow region. Ukrainian intelligence reportedly provided him with a gun, which he retrieved from a cache in the Moscow suburbs.
The assassination attempt occurred on 6/2. Korba received an electronic key to the Moscow apartment building where general Vladimir Alekseyev resided from Zinaida Serebritskaya, who also rented an apartment there. The suspect ambushed general Alekseyev in the elevator area and shot him 4 times. General Alekseyev underwent surgery and is currently recovering in the hospital.

Korba fled Russia after the attack, but was later arrested in Dubai and extradited back to Russia. Vasin was apprehended in Moscow. Investigators state that Serebritskaya, also a Russian citizen, "fled to Ukraine."
Accomplice Vasin was identified as holding views supporting the Anti-Corruption Foundation (ACF), an organization founded by opposition activist Alexei Navalny. The ACF is listed as a terrorist organization by Russia.
The SBU and Poland have not yet commented on these accusations. Ukraine previously denied any involvement in the shooting of general Alekseyev.
