The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on 17/12 that it cooperated with security forces in Abkhazia to arrest two Russian citizens in Sochi. These individuals allegedly intended to travel to Ukraine to join a unit managed by Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Directorate (GUR).
The FSB stated the two suspects are a father and daughter. While in Sukhumi, Abkhazia, they proactively contacted Ukrainian agents via the Telegram social network.
After receiving instructions from Ukrainian intelligence, the father and daughter began collecting information on Russia's defense capabilities. The father confessed to moving between Abkhazia and the Krasnodar region, transferring data about Russia's air defense network to Ukraine.
The FSB stated that those cooperating with foreign intelligence would face criminal charges, potentially leading to life imprisonment.
Kyiv has not commented on the information.
Russia has repeatedly arrested individuals suspected of cooperating with Ukrainian intelligence since the conflict began. On 16/12, the FSB announced the arrest of 4 teenagers accused of conspiring to detonate the Druzhba oil pipeline section passing through Lipetsk province, allegedly on Ukraine's orders. This pipeline transports Russian oil to Hungary, Slovakia, and other Central European countries.
On 20/11, the FSB announced it thwarted a Ukrainian intelligence plot to assassinate a senior military officer in Donetsk province using poisoned beer. More than one week prior, the agency announced it had foiled a plan to recruit pilots to steal a MiG-31 fighter jet and Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.
