The Ukrainian Air Force Command reported that the main target of the large-scale Russian attack early this morning was Kyiv. Ukrainian air defense units shot down 8 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, 6 Kh-101 cruise missiles, and 164 Geran suicide drones.
Four S-300 air defense missiles, repurposed by Russia for ground attack, and approximately 200 drones went off course due to Ukrainian electronic countermeasures. The remaining Russian drones hit 8 locations, with debris falling on 23 other sites.

Ukrainian officials reported two fatalities and 16 injuries in Kyiv, with three more injured in the Kherson province. Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that falling debris caused fires in several Kyiv districts.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the reports.
This attack follows a previous one where Russia launched an unprecedented 728 drones at various locations in western Ukraine. In addition, Russia also launched 6 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, which Ukrainian air defenses seemingly failed to intercept.
Russia has recently increased the intensity of its attacks, putting pressure on Ukraine's depleted air defense network, which is suffering from ammunition shortages. Meanwhile, peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have not made any progress.
On 10/7, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Western nations to "accelerate sanctions and exert sufficient pressure on Russia." He stated he would discuss with allies the allocation of additional funds for the production of air defense drones and the provision of air defense systems to Ukraine.
