Shooting in Bangkok leaves 6 dead

A gunman opened fire at a popular market in Bangkok, Thailand, killing several people before taking his own life.

The shooting occurred at the Or Tor Kor Market in the Chatuchak district of Bangkok today. Videos shared on social media show a man wielding a gun at the scene, while people frantically seek cover.

Bangkok police official Worapat Sukthai described the incident as a "shooting" and confirmed the suspect died by suicide. The incident resulted in 6 fatalities: 4 security guards, one market vendor, and the gunman. Three others were injured.

Sukthai added that police are working to identify the gunman and determine his motive. They are also investigating any possible connection between the shooting and the ongoing border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

Shootings are not uncommon in Thailand, where lax gun control laws make firearm ownership relatively easy.
