On 24/7, the Thai military released a video showing its special forces using drones to strike what it called "Cambodian military weapon depots" in the Phu Makhuea area near the border.
The video shows Thai drones taking off and dropping munitions on targets that appear to be fortifications and warehouses, resulting in explosions and fires. One drone is shown catching fire and crashing in what is purported to be Cambodian territory.
The Cambodian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the video.
Thai media reported that several Thai drones flew too low and were destroyed, including the one in the video, which was reportedly hit in its battery. The drone is a domestically produced model capable of carrying various munitions, including mortar rounds and improvised explosives.
Tensions between Cambodia and Thailand escalated on the morning of 24/7 when troops from both sides exchanged fire at the border, each accusing the other of initiating the attack and claiming self-defense.
The situation deteriorated within six hours, with both sides deploying heavy weaponry. Thailand accused Cambodia of shelling residential areas, resulting in 12 fatalities. Bangkok then deployed F-16 fighter jets to strike military targets across the border in retaliation.
This is the most serious clash between the two neighbors in over 10 years. Thai officials reported at least 14 deaths, more than 30 injuries, and around 100,000 residents evacuated from four border provinces. Cambodia reported at least one civilian death and five injuries.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on the night of 24/7 that he had spoken with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet and Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, stating that Phnom Penh and Bangkok were considering a ceasefire.
