The Thai military accused Cambodian forces of "firing, even using weapons like mortars," to attack Thai positions near the border in Si Sa Ket province.
"This action compelled us to exercise the right of self-defense under international principles. We have strictly adhered to the ceasefire agreement, suspending all deployments and reducing military activities in the area to foster a peaceful atmosphere, mutual trust, and constructive cooperation between our two countries," the Thai military statement said.
Thai officials warned they "will decisively implement necessary measures to protect sovereignty and ensure the safety of Thai citizens if these violations continue."

Meanwhile, Cambodian Defense Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata affirmed Cambodia's unwavering commitment to upholding the terms of the ceasefire with Thailand, as well as international law, the principles of peaceful coexistence, and multilateral cooperation.
Socheata expressed Cambodia's desire for a peaceful, friendly, and cooperative border with all its neighbors, based on mutual respect and sustainable development. "Cambodia will work closely with all stakeholders to establish a monitoring mechanism to verify and ensure full, strict, and sustainable implementation of the ceasefire agreement," she said.
Fighting between Cambodia and Thailand erupted near the Ta Moan Thom temple on the morning of 24/7 and later spread to other areas along the border. This was the most serious clash between the two neighbors in over 10 years, resulting in 38 deaths: 25 in Thailand and 13 in Cambodia.

Cambodia and Thailand reached a ceasefire agreement on 28/7 after talks in Malaysia mediated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Military leaders from both countries agreed not to deploy or move additional forces along the border to enforce the ceasefire.
However, Thailand has twice accused Cambodia of violating the agreement and attacking its positions. Cambodia denies these accusations, insisting it is adhering to the ceasefire and accusing Thailand of "fabrications and misrepresentations."
