The US Secret Service typically provides protection for former vice presidents for six months after they leave office. For former vice president Kamala Harris, this period ended on 21/7, but former president Joe Biden signed an order extending it for another year before leaving office.
However, a senior White House official said on 29/8 that President Donald Trump revoked Harris's Secret Service protection effective 1/9. The former vice president's office later confirmed this information.
"Harris is very grateful to the US Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to security," Kirsten Allen, a senior advisor to Harris, said.
Harris lives in Los Angeles and is preparing for a book tour to promote "107 Days," which recounts her 2024 campaign against Trump. She will visit 17 locations, both domestic and international.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called Trump's decision an "act of political retribution" and expressed her desire to provide security for the former vice president.
"This puts the former vice president in danger, and I look forward to working with the Governor to ensure Harris's safety in Los Angeles," Bass stated.
Since taking office in January, President Trump has withdrawn security privileges for several individuals, including former national security advisor John Bolton, former secretary of state Mike Pompeo, and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley. In March, Trump also revoked security detail for former president Biden's two children, Hunter and Ashley Biden.
