The environment ministry recorded this temperature on 25/7 in Silopi, Sirnak province, 10 km from the border with Iraq and Syria. Across the country, 132 weather stations also recorded record temperatures for July. The country is battling wildfires in several areas.
The previous record temperature in Turkey was 49.5°C, recorded in 8/2023.

Turkish firefighters have been battling an uncontrolled wildfire in the northern province of Karabuk for the past four days, forcing many local residents to evacuate. On 23/7, 10 people died fighting fires in Eskisehir province.
The heatwave is expected to continue for several more days, forcing some localities to issue water restrictions, including the coastal resort of Cesme, near Izmir on the west coast.
Neighboring Greece is also experiencing a heatwave and is battling wildfires in several areas.
