President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on 19/9 that Ukraine plans to export certain weapons to generate revenue for domestic defense production. "Ukraine possesses several types of weapons in quantities far exceeding our current needs. Through controlled exports, we can accumulate funds to produce more of what our military requires," he stated, listing unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), anti-tank weapons, and "several other types." Zelensky mentioned potential buyers including the US, Europe, and other international partners interested in Ukrainian weaponry, particularly those who have already supported Kyiv. He added that Ukrainian officials will draft export guidelines within the next two weeks.
Zelensky also emphasized that Ukraine will implement effective control measures to prevent Moscow and its allies from accessing Kyiv's weapons technology.

Since the conflict began in early 2022, Ukraine has relied heavily on Western financial and military aid. The country has subsequently boosted its domestic defense production, notably of drones. Earlier this month, Zelensky stated that nearly 60% of the equipment used by Ukrainian forces is domestically produced, a 20% increase compared to six months ago. For the 2025 fiscal year, Ukraine allocated $1.3 billion for defense production, striving to reduce reliance on foreign equipment.
Despite these efforts, Zelensky continues to call on Western allies for more weapons, particularly US-made Patriot systems.
