The public spending and tax cut bill, dubbed the "big beautiful bill" (OBBBA), passed the US house on 3/7 by a vote of 218-214. Two Republican representatives sided with the Democrats and voted against the bill.
The White House announced that President Donald Trump will sign the OBBBA into law at 5 PM on 4/7 (4 AM on 5/7 Hanoi time).
The OBBBA sets the budget framework for President Trump to fulfill campaign promises such as extending the tax cuts he implemented in his first term, increasing military spending, and funding efforts to deport undocumented immigrants.
"Things were truly disastrous under Biden-Harris. We tried our best, wrapped up in one big beautiful bill, to fix as much as possible. I’m grateful we got it done", House Speaker Mike Johnson said.

The House vote came after Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries used a special procedure to speak for 8 hours and 44 minutes to delay Republican passage of the bill.
"Everyone should vote against this bill because of how it targets children, the elderly, ordinary people, and people with disabilities. That's why I'm standing here, in the US house of representatives, with my Democratic colleagues, to speak out and oppose it with everything we have", Jeffries said.
The House passed a more than 1,000-page version of the OBBBA in late May and sent it to the Senate. Due to many controversial provisions in the House version, Republican senators amended and passed it on 1/7, then sent the draft back to the House for approval of the new contents.
The Congressional Budget Office last week released an analysis showing that the bill would increase the federal budget deficit by about $3.3 trillion over the next decade.
