Vietnam welcomes the immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement reached between Cambodia and Thailand, viewing it as a crucial step towards de-escalating tensions and restoring peace, stability, and security in the region, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
"Vietnam is confident that both countries will earnestly implement the ceasefire, continue dialogue, and pursue peaceful solutions to fundamentally address their differences, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and globally," Hang said.

Vietnam also commends Malaysia's efforts, as the 2025 ASEAN Chair, in actively promoting and creating a favorable environment for the peaceful resolution of disputes based on the fundamental principles of international law, the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the benefit of both sides and the region.
The unconditional ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand took effect at midnight on 29/7. Both sides agreed to resume direct dialogue at the prime minister, foreign minister, and defense minister levels, as well as hold informal meetings between military leaders in the border area.
Leaders from the US, China, the EU, and the UN also welcomed the ceasefire, urging both sides to adhere to the agreement in good faith to create a conducive environment for resolving outstanding issues and achieving lasting peace.
Fighting between Cambodian and Thai forces erupted near the Ta Moan Thom temple on the morning of 24/7 and subsequently spread to other areas along the border. This was the most serious clash between the two neighbors in over 10 years, resulting in 38 deaths, including 25 Thais and 13 Cambodians.
