During their meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed their satisfaction with the growing friendship and cooperation between the two nations, highlighted by the upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Bilateral trade in the first 7 months of 2025 reached 9.23 billion USD, an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. People-to-people exchanges are also increasingly robust. The cooperation between Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas has become a symbol of the effective partnership between the two countries.

Discussing measures to enhance bilateral relations, the two leaders agreed to continue strengthening political trust through exchanges of high-level and other delegations. They aim to increase trade and investment cooperation, targeting a balanced 18 billion USD.
Both sides also agreed to promote cooperation in energy, oil and gas, science and technology, digital transformation, innovation, AI, fishing, the Halal industry, and actively participate in ASEAN Power Grid (APG) projects.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized the need for both sides to quickly adopt the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025-2030 period. He also highlighted the importance of actively implementing green energy projects and trilateral cooperation on exporting renewable energy from Vietnam to Malaysia and Singapore.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thanked Vietnam for its support and contributions to Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chair in 2025 and Chair of the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-46).
Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the National Assembly of Vietnam would closely coordinate and collaborate with the Malaysian Parliament and other countries' parliaments to further AIPA's role in promoting regional linkage and connectivity. This includes raising the voice of the people, strengthening exchanges between people of ASEAN countries, and promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals.
In a meeting on the same day between the Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, Johari bin Abdul, and the heads of delegations attending AIPA-46, Chairman Tran Thanh Man and other delegation heads commended Malaysia's preparations. They expressed confidence in the success of AIPA-46 and affirmed the determination and role of parliaments in building the ASEAN Community.
