President Donald Trump is set to visit China from 31/3 to 2/4, a trip confirmed by White House officials on 20/2. During this visit, he is expected to meet with Chinese president Xi Jinping. The announcement comes as both leaders have recently described the relationship between their two nations as "good" and marked by "good exchanges."
This upcoming visit will mark president Trump's first trip to Beijing since his last visit during his first term in 2017. The White House chief previously stated that this visit "will be very exciting." President Xi Jinping is also expected to visit the United States this year, though specific dates have not yet been announced.

Ahead of president Trump's trip, both countries are reportedly working on the framework for a bilateral investment agreement. Discussions also include potential deals for the purchase of aircraft and soybeans, according to James Zimmerman, chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China.
Relations between the two nations had previously been strained since president Trump imposed strong tariffs on China early in his second term. In response, Beijing implemented a significant boycott of US agricultural products for most of last year.
Tensions eased following a meeting between the two leaders in South Korea in 10/2025. During that summit, they reached an agreement to halt tariff escalation for one year and committed to stabilizing relations. Subsequent phone calls between the two leaders took place in 11/2025 and again in 2.
President Trump's visit to China follows a US Supreme Court ruling that rejected his reciprocal tariff policy. This decision could potentially reduce the US president's leverage in discussions with president Xi Jinping, while also possibly fostering bilateral trade.
