Margo Martin, a communications advisor to US President Donald Trump, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on 24/9, "The presidential hall of fame has arrived in the west wing. Stay tuned."
The hall displays black and white portraits of past US presidents. However, instead of a portrait of former president Joe Biden, the White House opted to display a picture of an autopen.
An autopen is a device that replicates signatures to automatically sign large quantities of documents without the signatory's direct involvement. Trump has criticized Biden for using an autopen, suggesting that his predecessor was unaware of the contents of the documents he was signing.
Earlier this year, Trump claimed to have voided a series of pardons issued by Biden to members of the January 6th committee, alleging they were "autopenned."
AFP described the administration's decision to display the autopen image instead of Biden's portrait as the most audacious move yet in Trump's White House renovation plan. Trump previously relocated a portrait of former President Barack Obama and replaced it with one of himself.
