"I have approved a bill to strengthen Ukraine's law enforcement system, ensuring the independence of the anti-corruption agency, and protecting the system from Russian influence or interference. The bill has been developed in a balanced and reasonable manner," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today.
Zelensky did not specify the details of the bill, adding that the document would be submitted to the Ukrainian parliament the same day. It is unclear when the agency will review the bill, as the Ukrainian parliament is scheduled to begin its summer recess this week.
"It is important that we maintain unity, preserve independence, and respect the views of all Ukrainian people," Zelensky said.

The move marks a reversal for the Ukrainian president. On 22/7, Zelensky sparked controversy when he signed a law revoking the autonomy of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO).
NABU investigates corruption cases within state agencies, while SAPO prosecutes other corrupt practices.
Critics argued that this law consolidated power in the hands of the Ukrainian president and would allow the government to interfere in investigations of major corruption cases. The bill sparked large protests in Kyiv, demonstrating rare public dissent against the Ukrainian government since the conflict began in 2022.
European officials expressed concern about the law tightening control over NABU and SAPO, requesting an explanation from Ukraine and warning that the move could hinder Kyiv's efforts to join the EU.
