Vietnam's C-segment sedan market recorded 341 units sold in may, a 7.2% increase from the previous month. However, demand remains low compared to other segments, as consumers increasingly prefer CUVs and SUVs.
Mazda3 continued to lead the segment with 233 units sold, a slight 1.7% increase from 229 units in april. Mazda's sedan currently holds approximately 68% of the segment's market share in may, demonstrating a significant gap from its competitors. It was also the only model to achieve three-digit sales, while all rivals sold fewer than 100 units.
Following Mazda3 was the Honda Civic, with 75 units sold, marking a 27% increase from the previous month. This model also showed the strongest growth among C-segment sedans in may. The Civic's appeal partly stems from its sporty design and the availability of a hybrid variant, which helps expand its customer base.
The Hyundai Elantra ranked third with 33 units, a modest 13.8% increase from the previous month. Despite its distinctive design and extensive features, the South Korean model faces challenges competing with the Mazda3 and the general shift towards high-riding vehicle segments.
Most notably, the Toyota Corolla Altis sold zero units in may, after selling only one unit the previous month. The poor sales performance of the Corolla Altis comes as the Toyota sedan is believed to have reached the end of its lifecycle in Vietnam. According to information from dealers, Toyota has stopped taking orders for the Corolla Altis, and Toyota Vietnam stated it has no plans for new distribution of this C-segment sedan.

Cumulative sales for the first five months of 2026 show Mazda3 achieving 1,376 units, far outpacing the Honda Civic with 402 units and the Hyundai Elantra with 186 units. Meanwhile, the Corolla Altis has only sold 16 units since the beginning of the year. Thus, the domestic C-segment sedan competition will effectively be limited to three notable names: Mazda3, Honda Civic, and Hyundai Elantra, as Kia K3 stopped reporting sales data at the beginning of the year.
