China's top 10 best-selling new energy vehicles in 2025

Geely's all-electric hatchback led the list with over 465,000 units delivered in 2025, followed by Wuling's mini electric vehicle with nearly 436,000 units.

The Geely Galaxy Xingyuan was China's best-selling new energy vehicle (NEV) in 2025, with 465,775 units sold. This data comes from the sales report by the China Passenger Car Association.

The hatchback's success reflects a fundamental shift in Chinese consumer behavior. Buyers increasingly prioritize compact size, ideal for crowded urban environments. The Xingyuan offers competitive pricing without compromising battery capacity, along with low ownership and maintenance costs, and simple technology. The Xingyuan, previously under Geely's Geometry brand, later merged into Geely Galaxy, and frequently topped monthly sales charts.

Following closely, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV secured the second position with 435,599 units sold in 2025. Its affordability is a key factor in its success across China. Despite a minimalist design and limited range, the Mini EV appeals to first-time buyers, urban commuters, and families seeking a second vehicle.

The American car brand Tesla contributed two models to China's top 10 list. The Tesla Model Y held the third position with total sales of 425,337 units in 2025, while the Model 3 ranked ninth with 200,361 units sold. Tesla's strengths lie in brand trust, its software ecosystem, and battery performance. However, Chinese consumers increasingly compare Tesla directly with domestic alternatives offering similar range and technology at lower prices. According to CarAdvisers, the Model Y's third-place ranking reflects its resilience rather than market dominance.

BYD demonstrated significant market presence, with five of the 10 models on the list belonging to the brand. BYD's vertical integration strategy, coupled with its control over battery production and flexible powertrain systems, enables the company to adapt to changing consumer demands faster than its competitors.

Xiaomi made its mark with the SU7, an all-electric sedan that achieved 258,164 units in sales for 2025, securing the seventh overall ranking. Chinese customers chose Xiaomi's sedan due to the brand's reputation, alongside features such as over-the-air updates, seamless smartphone integration, and artificial intelligence-powered driving assistance.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the top 10 best-selling new energy vehicles in China for 2025:
