South Korean automaker Hyundai is recalling 68,500 2026 Palisade vehicles in the US and Canada. According to a notification sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall is due to the power-folding second and third-row seat system potentially failing to detect occupants or objects.

The recall follows the death of a two-year-old child in Ohio, US, on March 7.
Hyundai stated in a press release that it "does not yet have full details and the incident is under investigation". The recall affects two Palisade versions: Limited and Calligraphy. Specifically, 60,515 vehicles in the US and 7,967 vehicles in Canada are impacted.
The manufacturer is finalizing the recall details for submission to the NHTSA. Additionally, Hyundai is developing a permanent fix for the Palisade and will release a temporary over-the-air update, expected in late March.
This update aims to enhance the system's responsiveness when detecting occupants or objects, introduce additional safety measures during operation, and improve the overall safety of the system.

The Palisade is Hyundai's fourth best-selling model in the US market, following the Tucson, Elantra, and Santa Fe. For the new 2026 model, the Palisade adds a hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2,5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, producing a combined 329 horsepower and 459 Nm of torque. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
In the US, the 2026 Hyundai Palisade is priced between 39,500 USD and 56,800 USD.
