MG Hector Tomahawk EV: a three-row electric car priced from USD 14,600

This D-segment electric SUV features a single electric motor, a 69,2 kWh battery, a 517 km range, and is available for sale starting in September.

MG has introduced its all-electric SUV, the Hector Tomahawk EV, in the Indian market. The vehicle is available in two configurations: a 5-seater and a 7-seater, with prices ranging from USD 20,400 to USD 24,600.

In addition to traditional purchase methods, MG offers a battery-as-a-service model. With this option, the initial purchase price drops to USD 14,600, excluding battery lease fees. Customers pay a separate battery usage fee of USD 0,05 per kilometer traveled. The company stated this introductory price applies to a limited number of vehicles but did not disclose the exact figure.

The Hector Tomahawk EV is MG's first model in India to utilize the new ADAPT chassis architecture. Power comes from a front-axle electric motor, delivering 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. The vehicle accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8,2 seconds, according to the manufacturer.

The car is equipped with a 69,2 kWh battery pack, providing a 517 km range on a full charge. The Hector Tomahawk EV supports DC fast charging up to 90 kW. According to specifications, charging from 30% to 80% takes 35 minutes. With a 7,4 kW AC charger, a 10% to 100% charge takes approximately 12,5 hours.

MG's electric SUV will directly compete with D-segment electric vehicle rivals such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV. Deliveries are expected to begin in September.

The exterior of the Hector Tomahawk EV features prominent LED headlights and daytime running lights arranged around the illuminated MG logo. The vehicle comes with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a roof rack, black body cladding, and a power-operated tailgate. It also has LED taillights and a robust rear bumper design.

The vehicle's overall dimensions are 4.745 mm in length, 1.850 mm in width, and 1.770 mm in height, with a 2.810 mm wheelbase and 230 mm ground clearance. Compared to the VinFast VF 8, MG's model is 44 mm longer but has a 30 mm shorter wheelbase.

Luggage compartment capacity varies by seating configuration. The 5-seater version offers 610 liters, while the 7-seater version provides 192 liters with all three rows in use. Folding the third row increases the capacity to 528 liters.

The cabin features an infotainment system with a 15,6-inch touchscreen paired with an 8,8-inch digital instrument cluster. Notable technology features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, and gesture controls.

Other equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, multi-color ambient interior lighting, a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, rear window sunshades, and a power tailgate. The driver's seat also has a memory function.

MG integrates several specialized cabin modes: Camp, Nap, Energise, Valet, Quiet, and Pro Pet.

For safety, the vehicle comes standard with six airbags and a 360-degree camera featuring additional views like transparent chassis and wheel display. The advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) includes 11 features, such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and prevention, and adaptive high beam assist.

The Hector Tomahawk EV supports bidirectional charging functions, including vehicle-to-load (V2L), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), and vehicle-to-home (V2H). The V2L capability allows the car to power compatible external devices and tools. It also supports V2V charging, enabling the SUV to transfer energy to another electric vehicle.

Additionally, MG states the Hector Tomahawk EV is the first vehicle in India with V2H capability, allowing its battery to supply power to household appliances through a compatible bidirectional charging setup.
