Practicality of the BYD M6 electric vehicle

The all-electric MPV, priced under 800 million VND, boasts total maintenance costs below 8.7 million VND over its first six years of use, according to the manufacturer.

In recent years, Vietnam's automotive market has seen the rise of new energy vehicles, including the 7-seater MPV segment, popular with families and transport service businesses. BYD Vietnam has introduced the all-electric M6 to meet this demand, highlighting its spacious interior and optimized running costs compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.

The electric MPV measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,690 mm in height. It features a long wheelbase of 2,800 mm. Its exterior design includes LED headlights and a sealed grille characteristic of electric vehicles. It also comes with 17-inch multi-spoke wheels.

Inside, the BYD M6 features a floating 12.8-inch central display on the dashboard. It offers dual-zone air conditioning and charging ports for all rows. The leather seats are designed with a minimalist, user-friendly style. The second and third rows can be flexibly folded to expand cargo space, accommodating diverse user needs.

The vehicle uses an electric motor producing 161 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. Its Blade battery system provides a range of 420 km on a full charge, as announced by the manufacturer. Overall, electric vehicles typically have lower per-maintenance costs than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. BYD states that the first maintenance cost for the M6 is under 500,000 VND, with the highest cost at 80,000 km being approximately 3 million VND.

"Over the first six years of use, the total maintenance cost for the BYD M6 is under 8.7 million VND, an impressive figure in the 7-seater family car segment," said a BYD Vietnam representative. According to the company, this advantage stems from the simpler structure of electric vehicles, which lack complex components like engine oil changes found in internal combustion engine cars. Maintenance for electric vehicles primarily focuses on the electrical system, brakes, and some common wear-and-tear items.

In march, customers purchasing a BYD M6 receive an incentive of 3 million VND, a 2.2 kW portable charger, and a V2L power adapter. For 2025 models, users will also receive a 7 kW wall-mounted home charger.

All BYD vehicle lines in Vietnam come with a manufacturer's warranty of six years or 150,000 km, whichever comes first. The battery pack, electric motor, and electric motor controller are warranted for eight years or 160,000 km.
