Automatic profit generation: a future trend

According to Dr. Le Xuan Nghia, automatic profit generation will become a future trend, ushering in a modern financial era where money actively works to generate returns for users.

Automatic profit generation is emerging as a significant trend in Vietnam's financial landscape. Dr. Le Xuan Nghia, an economics, finance, and banking expert, highlighted this during the "Decoding Automatic Profit Generation" talk show, organized by Techcombank and CafeF. He forecasts its widespread adoption in the coming years, driven by technological advancements and the digital financial ecosystem. This model boosts capital efficiency and injects new momentum into the economy, aligning Vietnam's financial market with global standards.

In just over one year, automatic profit generation has evolved from a new concept into a common feature at many Vietnamese banks. While all aim to maximize user benefits, product implementation varies among banks, reflecting each institution's technological capabilities and individual strategies. Some banks require a minimum balance threshold or a specific holding period to ensure returns, while others prioritize flexibility, allowing free withdrawals and deposits with accrued interest. This diversity stimulates the market but can complicate user choices.

To navigate this, Dr. Le Xuan Nghia advises users to consider three important factors, beyond interest rates, before activating automatic profit generation at any bank: brand reputation and technology platform, safety and flexibility, and transparency in the mechanism and management of balances and profits.

Brand reputation and technology platform are crucial. The entire profit generation mechanism operates on automated allocation and digital management systems. To build a large and sustainable deposit base, banks need robust databases, artificial intelligence (ai) applications for customer behavior analysis, and an optimized financial ecosystem.

The second factor is flexibility, demonstrated by 24/7 payment and transaction capabilities, without minimum thresholds or holding periods. The expert noted that since this product pays returns on a payment account, ideally, users should be able to withdraw or spend at any time without affecting accumulated interest. Lacking this feature, customers may revert to traditional savings products with higher yields.

Finally, before activation, users must access information about the operating mechanism, profit payment schedule, and the ability to check balances and actual earned interest, ideally through digital banking. Reputable banks typically disclose how funds are used, investment partners (if any), and adhere strictly to regulations of the State Bank of Vietnam.

In Vietnam, Techcombank was the first bank to launch an automatic profit generation product, embodying the expert's criteria. Chief Executive Officer Jens Lottner observed that early market entry provides significant value to customers but also exposes Techcombank to increasing competition from later-launched products.

"A lot of technology, artificial intelligence, and connectivity between different products are needed for automatic profit generation to truly work. This is our irreplaceable differentiator", the Chief Executive Officer of Techcombank emphasized.

Techcombank's technology system has surpassed strict international standards, earning three awards at the IBA Stevie Awards 2025: a Gold Award for customer-centric product design, and two Bronze Awards for outstanding ai application and excellent financial services.

As a pioneer, Techcombank has gathered feedback from millions of customers, continuously enhancing features: optimizing returns for all balances, no compartmentalization, no minimum balance requirement, and 24/7 liquidity. Customers can withdraw money at any time without affecting accumulated interest and transparently track profits directly on the Techcombank Mobile application.

Offering benefits up to 88 times higher than regular payment accounts, automatic profit generation is chosen by many customers to replace traditional methods and has become a preferred primary transaction channel within the Techcombank financial ecosystem. The product has now attracted over 4,1 million users.

Nguyen Van Linh, Deputy Director of Retail Banking at Techcombank, stated that the bank will continue to upgrade and add more layers of protection to enhance account safety, increase value, and improve the experience, helping customers feel more secure when using the product.

According to experts, automatic profit generation is transforming personal finance management and creating an efficient capital mobilization channel. It activates idle funds, reintegrating them into the financial system to boost credit, production, and consumption. From a market perspective, this model opens a new development direction for the banking industry. It also demonstrates the efforts of Vietnamese financial institutions to innovate products, leverage technology, and elevate customer experience, marking a key step in the national financial sector's digital transformation.
