The company will also adjust several surcharges, including additional handling, oversized packages, remote area delivery, residential delivery, and ground import handling fees into the US. FedEx Freight rates will increase by an average of 5.9% or 6.9% depending on the service. Other services such as Ground Economy, Ground Multiweight, International Premium, and International Priority DirectDistribution will also be affected, though FedEx has not yet specified the increase.
This is an annual practice for FedEx, similar to the 5.9% increase in both 2024 and 2025. Competitor UPS also typically adjusts prices annually but hasn't announced its 2026 plans.
Analysts suggest this adjustment comes as shipping companies face higher delivery costs and fewer discounts. The July TD Cowen/AFS Freight Index report indicated record-high second-quarter per-package ground shipping costs, projected to remain elevated.
While FedEx continues to increase various surcharges, the 2026 increases for additional handling and oversized packages are lower than in 2025. For example, the additional handling surcharge by weight for Zone 2 shipments will only increase by 2.5 USD, compared to 9 USD the previous year. However, businesses shipping bulky items still face significant pressure due to high costs and limited alternatives.
