Domestic gold prices recovered on the morning of 12/5, following a sharp decline and positive international market trends. This surge saw brands like Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) raise gold bar prices by 1,8 million dong compared to yesterday, with prices now ranging from 164 million to 167 million dong per tael.
The positive shift in the gold market is primarily attributed to escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which has spurred investor demand for safe-haven assets. On 11/5, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran's response to a ceasefire agreement was "unacceptable", signaling continued disagreement between the two sides. This contributed to a global gold price increase, with each ounce of world spot gold rising by over 20 USD to 4,734 USD, equivalent to more than 151 million dong per tael by the close of 11/5.
Following SJC's lead, other prominent brands also adjusted their gold bar prices upwards. Consequently, the domestic gold bar price now holds a premium of approximately 16 million dong per tael over the world price, a narrower gap compared to the 18-20 million dong difference observed in April. This recovery comes after gold bar prices had fallen by 2,2 million dong on 11/5.
Plain gold rings also saw price adjustments by SJC two times this morning. This type of gold is currently trading at 163,8 million to 166,8 million dong per tael, marking a 2,1 million dong increase from yesterday afternoon's closing figures. PNJ is currently buying and selling plain gold rings at 163,5 million to 168,5 million dong, which is 300,000 dong lower than SJC. Other retailers such as DOJI, Bao Tin Minh Chau, and Bao Tin Manh Hai are trading plain rings within the range of 164 million to 167 million dong.
Silver prices also experienced an uptick, with silver bars increasing by 5%. Phu Quy listed this precious metal at 3,2 million to 3,3 million dong per tael, equivalent to 85,4 million to 87,9 million dong per kilogram, marking its highest price in the past two months. Similarly, Ancarat and Sacombank - SBJ are buying and selling silver bars around 3,1 million to 3,2 million dong.
