Container throughput was the primary growth driver, increasing by 29% year-on-year to 13 million tons, the port's highest level ever. In terms of standard container units, throughput reached 1,3 million TEU, 29% higher than the record set in 2024.
Port representatives attributed this growth to an increasing share of transshipment traffic, supported by deepened navigation channels and efficient utilization of integrated port infrastructure. The port plans further investment in expanding its area by 100 hectares.

Notably, overall throughput surged despite a 3% reduction in vessel calls, reflecting a trend towards larger average ship sizes.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) volumes through the port reached 2,4 million tons, marking a 19% increase compared to 2024. The port noted that while the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Independence underwent one month of scheduled maintenance the previous year, the growth trend remains positive compared to the 2,35 million tons recorded in 2023.
Roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) cargo, which refers to goods driven onto and off vessels rather than craned like containers, also saw positive results, increasing by 6% to 6,5 million tons. The number of vehicles transported by ferry set a new record in 2025, with Klaipėda Port handling 353,759 vehicles, surpassing the 2021 record by approximately 10,500 units. This achievement was driven by TT-Line's launch of a new direct weekend route and DFDS's increased frequency on the Klaipėda - Karlshamn route, alongside added connections to Trelleborg and Travemünde.
However, some cargo segments experienced declines. Forest products decreased by 18,3% to 606,000 tons. Metal scrap volumes fell by 11% to 1,2 million tons, attributed to US customs policies and slowed demand from the Turkish market. Grain throughput dropped by 7% amidst a challenging harvest season, with 60-70% of this commodity typically destined for export.
Algis Latakas, General Director of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, stated, "2025 was a truly successful year for Klaipėda Port, with 39 million tons of cargo handled. Alongside throughput, we focused on investment, port security, technological advancements, and environmental solutions. Seven new records demonstrate the port's proactive pursuit of growth opportunities, despite geopolitical contexts and sanctions."
For its long-term strategy, Klaipėda Port aims to develop green hydrogen production and supply infrastructure, deploy hydrogen-powered waste collection vessels, and provide shore power for berthed ships to reduce emissions.
Klaipėda, Lithuania's deep-water port, is situated on the Baltic Sea coast and serves as a vital maritime gateway for the Eastern European region. Remaining ice-free in winter, the port operates year-round, handling containers, bulk cargo, liquid cargo, and ro-ro traffic. Klaipėda connects directly to trans-European rail and road networks, facilitating cargo transshipment between the Baltic region and Central and Eastern Europe. In recent years, the port has intensified investments in infrastructure, digitalization, and green logistics to enhance its regional competitiveness.
