Billionaire Pham Thu Huong named GSM chair

Billionaire Pham Thu Huong, wife of Pham Nhat Vuong, became chair of GSM company – the operator of Xanh SM taxi and ride-hailing services – effective march 4.

Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM) announced the information in a business registration amendment document on 4/3. Nguyen Van Thanh remains the company's general director.

Born in 1969, Pham Thu Huong holds a master's degree in international law from Ukraine. She is the wife of Pham Nhat Vuong, currently Vietnam's wealthiest person. The businesswoman is a co-founder and vice chair of Vingroup, the largest private company on the stock market.

Huong directly holds over 341 million VIC shares, representing approximately 4,4% of Vingroup's capital. In early February, Forbes magazine recognized her as a billionaire with an estimated net worth of 2,9 billion USD.

Billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong founded GSM in 2023 with an initial charter capital of 3.000 billion dong. Initially, the company primarily operated in the taxi and ride-hailing sectors, exclusively using VinFast products. Subsequently, the business expanded into various services, including food delivery, parcel delivery, intra-city transport, and electric car and motorbike rentals.

This taxi and ride-hailing company operates in 34 provinces and cities nationwide. Additionally, GSM has launched international services in markets such as Laos, Indonesia, and the Philippines. According to its plan, the company aims to expand into 10 new markets this year.

A Mordor Intelligence report indicates that GSM held a 51,5% market share in Vietnam's 4-wheel ride-hailing market in Q4/2025, based on gross merchandise value (GMV). The company has become the domestic market leader, surpassing two major rivals: Grab and Be.

In late February, GSM merged with Green Future, a company specializing in leasing and selling used VinFast vehicles. Following the merger, GSM's total charter capital increased to 43.400 billion dong. Billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong and his family retain controlling interest in the company.
