Prolonged heatwaves caused by climate change further intensify pressure, as cooling systems must operate continuously to preserve food and pharmaceuticals.
Cold storage facilities are impacted more significantly than many other sectors due to their 24/7 operation. Electricity for cooling can account for over 70% of total consumption, with usage around 640-650 kWh per cubic meter annually, which is four to five times higher than typical commercial buildings. Consequently, even slight fluctuations in electricity prices are enough to sharply increase operating costs.
