Swiss watches with a Vietnamese cultural touch

The Dong Son collection, created by Peter Speake, founder of Speake-Marin and PS Horlogy, is renowned for its intricate mechanisms and Dong Son heritage details, with prices ranging from 550 million to 4.5 billion VND.

Peter Speake began combining the essence of Swiss watchmaking with the heritage of Dong Son bronze drums in 2012, creating numerous versions with unique aesthetics and mechanisms, featured in various international collections.

The latest line, Tsuba Dong Son (2025), was launched to commemorate the 80th anniversary of National Day and the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Dong Son civilization. Only 20 pieces of this line will be delivered this year. Tsuba Dong Son represents a blend of Swiss, Vietnamese, and Japanese cultures.

This watch draws inspiration from Japanese sword tsubas, incorporating the image of a persimmon, symbolizing prosperity, and an octagon, representing stability and good fortune.

The solid gold dial features 71 hand-finished Dong Son motifs, each measuring only 1.54-2.76mm. The watch hands are stylized representations of Dong Son spears.

The watch houses an ultra-thin 2.56mm Swiss mechanical movement, the kind used in Richard Mille and Audemars Piguet watches.

Dong Son The Sun (2018-2021), inspired by the sun symbol on Dong Son bronze drums, comprises 18 rose gold cases, including both concentric and off-center dial versions. Pictured is the concentric version with a blue dial.

This line also includes a concentric version with a white dial and Super Luminova luminescence.

The Dong Son Tourbillon (2014-2016) was launched with a limited edition of 10 pieces: seven with rose gold cases, two with titanium cases, and one with baguette diamonds. The Dong Son Tourbillon Baguette Diamond features a tourbillon mechanism at the 6 o'clock position, the size of a button, comprising 67 micro-components weighing a mere 0.04 grams.

This series of watches, bearing the mark of Vietnamese heritage, began with Dong Son (2012-2015), the inaugural product of the entire collection. It includes 18 classic three-hand rose gold cases with diamond-studded crowns and a unique titanium version. This iconic platform pays tribute to Vietnamese culture. The first Dong Son version features a classic three-hand design with a diamond-studded crown.

Pictured is the signature Piccadilly case by Speake-Marin. With 67 watches, the Dong Son collection was completed between 2012 and 2025. Each piece is the result of a lengthy handcrafted process, with only a few completed each year.
