The equipment, funded by Santos Brasil and manufactured by ZPMC Group, is expected to begin traditional operations soon. Remote control operations will be gradually implemented after testing, system configuration, and personnel training are completed, a process anticipated to last up to one year.

The new gantry cranes integrate a truck positioning system, enabling precise alignment during loading and unloading. These units can be centrally controlled, eliminating the need for operators to work in high cabins. Each crane stands 50 m tall, has a reach of 70 m, and can simultaneously lift two 20-foot (approximately 6 m) containers, with a maximum load capacity of 100 tons.
The eight new electric rubber-tired gantry cranes join the existing fleet at the yard, increasing the total number of electric RTGs to 16. Santos Brasil introduced remote control technology in Brazil in late 2024. The port anticipates adding 30 more electric RTGs in the coming years, gradually replacing diesel-powered models.
Once the entire crane fleet is replaced, emissions are estimated to decrease by 713 tons per month, representing a 97% reduction in emissions from this equipment group. The new operating model also enhances safety, ergonomics, and working conditions for operators.
Tecon Santos port is one of the most modern and important container terminals at Santos port, which is the largest seaport in Brazil and the Latin American region. Operated by Santos Brasil, Tecon Santos plays a central role in Brazil's international logistics chain, connecting the nation with maritime routes across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
The port has invested significantly in automation, modern handling equipment, and emission reduction solutions, aiming to become a green, smart port. With its substantial capacity and advanced infrastructure, Tecon Santos contributes to enhancing Brazil's import and export capabilities and its trade competitiveness in the global market.
