In addition to the new general director appointment, VinEnergo has expanded its business scope to include new sectors, such as the production of electricity from non-renewable and renewable energy sources, and the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment.
VinEnergo was founded by Pham Nhat Vuong in March, with the billionaire holding a 71% stake. The company primarily focuses on electricity generation and the manufacturing of electrical equipment. In October, the enterprise completed a capital increase from 10,000 billion VND to 28,355 billion VND.
As of October 10, Vuong had transferred ownership of 165,7 million VIC shares to VinEnergo as a capital contribution. This transaction gives the energy company a 4,3% stake in Vingroup.
In September, VinEnergo, in collaboration with Vingroup, broke ground on the Hai Phong liquefied natural gas (LNG) thermal power project. Located in the Tan Trao industrial park, the project spans 100 hectares and involves capital exceeding 178,000 billion VND. The plant, designed with a capacity of 4,800 MW, is projected to supply approximately 19,2 billion kWh annually once it becomes operational in late 2030.
During Vingroup's annual meeting this year, Pham Nhat Vuong outlined three reasons for the group's expansion into the energy sector: creating a green ecosystem, addressing energy shortages, and contributing to national development.
