VinMetal partners with world's leading metallurgical giant

The cooperation agreement with Primetals Technologies helps VinMetal accelerate the development of a modern steel complex in Ha Tinh, meeting high global standards.

VinMetal, a Vingroup company, has signed a comprehensive strategic memorandum of understanding with Primetals Technologies, a world-leading metallurgical technology group. This partnership focuses on developing a large-scale integrated steel production complex in Ha Tinh. The complex will produce both long and flat steel, incorporating advanced, green, and internationally standardized digital technology.

Under the agreement, Primetals will serve as the technology integrator. It will collaborate with VinMetal to optimize technology solutions across the entire production chain, from ironmaking and steelmaking to finished steel rolling. Primetals will also coordinate technical interfaces between contractors and EPC general contractors, ensuring seamless integration for the complex.

Pham Nhat Quan Anh, VinMetal's General Director, stated at the event that this partnership aims to build a modern, regional-leading steel complex. He also affirmed a commitment to international ESG standards and to fostering new growth for Vietnam's metallurgical industry.

"We aim to build a large-scale, modern, green, and digitized steel complex. This complex will meet the highest international standards, enhancing the competitiveness and global position of Vietnam's steel industry", Quan Anh said.

A company representative noted that the partnership with Primetals significantly reduces technical integration risks in multi-bid deployment. It also shortens project development by standardizing technology and financial solutions early on. The two parties also plan to expand cooperation in human resource training, operations and maintenance, and digital transformation. This aims to optimize overall operational efficiency and foster long-term sustainable development.

Kosei Tsuji, Executive Vice President of Primetals, expressed confidence that the synergy between Primetals' technology and VinMetal's strategic direction will create an advanced, efficient, and sustainable steel complex in Vietnam.

VinMetal is currently developing a steel production plant in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, Ha Tinh, targeting initial operation from 2027. The project aims to become a leading high-tech steel complex in the region, supplying high-quality steel products for domestic industrial and infrastructure development, and for export.

Primetals Technologies, a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries company, resulted from the merger of Siemens VAI (Germany) and Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery (Japan). The company is globally renowned for integrated steelmaking technology, steel rolling, Level 1-3 automation, and digital solutions for large-scale steel complexes. It provides comprehensive solutions for the steel industry, combining European technical standards with Japanese industrial and management capabilities.
