The Atlanta rollout is part of a service expansion strategy Walmart announced in June. The corporation plans to introduce this service in five new cities within a year, including Atlanta, Houston, Charlotte (North Carolina), and two Florida cities: Orlando and Tampa.
This move follows Walmart's success in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where the company tested drone delivery with positive results. In 2024, Walmart announced plans to expand its reach to an additional 1.8 million households in Texas, potentially making the service accessible to 75% of the region's population. Currently, the company performs thousands of express drone deliveries weekly in Dallas-Fort Worth, primarily for essential items like eggs, ground meat, and butter.
Since 2022, Walmart has also partnered with DroneUp to deploy similar services in Arizona, Florida, and Texas, demonstrating a long-term strategy to optimize last-mile delivery operations.
Walmart, one of the world's largest retail corporations, was founded in 1962 in Arkansas, US. The company operates a chain of supermarkets, hypermarkets, and discount stores with over 10,000 locations globally. Walmart is known for its everyday low price strategy, extensive logistics network, and optimized supply chain capabilities. The corporation has also expanded significantly into e-commerce and delivery technology, including express delivery, buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS), and drone delivery. Serving millions of customers daily, Walmart plays a significant role in the US retail sector and many international markets.
