Hanoi University of Science and Technology plans to open medical doctor program

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH) has established a Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, aiming to offer various health science programs, including a medical doctor program.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH) has established a Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, with plans to launch a medical doctor program after 2030. Associate Professor Doctor Pham The Hai, Head of the newly formed faculty, announced this on 1/8.

The university began enrolling and training students in pharmacy from 2023, currently offering two specializations: pharmacology - clinical pharmacy, and pharmaceutical industry and formulation. From now until 2030, USTH will strengthen its pharmacy program and launch additional programs in high-demand health science fields, including: pharmaceutical technology, public health, nursing, and nutrition. Beyond undergraduate studies, USTH plans to offer postgraduate programs in health sciences.

"In the long term, the faculty aims to become a training, research, and innovation unit in medicine, pharmacy, and health sciences," said Pham The Hai. "It will be characterized by its science and technology focus, strong practical links, international integration, and responsiveness to Vietnam's healthcare system needs."

Professor Doctor Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, the Rector, stated that establishing the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy is a strategic move, built on the cooperation between the Vietnamese and French governments. "We remain steadfast in our direction to promote training in areas where Vietnam has a demand and French partners have strengths," said Dinh Thi Mai Thanh. "The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy embodies this direction, connecting Vietnam's development needs with the excellence of French education and science."

According to Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, USTH will continue to develop strategic fields such as medicine, nuclear power, and various advanced science and technology disciplines to address the nation's major challenges.

Currently, about 35 universities nationwide offer medical doctor programs, with nearly 20 being public and the rest private. Tuition fees for medical doctor programs in the 2026-2027 academic year are projected to range from 48 to 150 million dong.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH, also known as Vietnam - France University), an institution under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, was established in 2009 under an intergovernmental agreement between Vietnam and France. Its goal is to become an excellent, internationally recognized university for science and technology education.

Currently, USTH enrolls students in 20 undergraduate programs, primarily in strategic technology fields aligned with the strengths of France and Europe. In 2026, the university plans to enroll approximately 1.200 students. USTH's annual tuition fees for Vietnamese students are 59 million dong for single-degree programs, 77 million dong for the pharmacy program, and 83 million dong for Vietnamese-French dual-degree programs. The aerospace engineering program's first-year tuition fee is 105 million dong. Additionally, USTH offers scholarships ranging from 3,7 to 5,5 million dong per month for eligible programs.
