The Ho Chi Minh City University of Education first organized its specialized competency assessment exam in 2022, attracting about 2,000 test-takers. By 2025, this number reached nearly 29,000.
Eight other universities also utilize these scores for admission, including: Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Hanoi University of Education, Hanoi University of Education 2, pedagogical universities under Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Da Nang University, and Vinh University.
For the 2026 admission cycle, HCMUE expects to maintain its previous admission methods. The university's three main admission pathways include: direct admission and priority admission for specialized high school students; admission based on national high school graduation exam scores; and combined admission. The combined admission method integrates competency assessment scores with high school transcript scores, or national high school graduation exam scores or competency assessment scores with aptitude test scores.
This year, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education plans to enroll nearly 5,200 students. Based on national high school graduation exam results, the chemistry education major had the highest admission score at 29,38 points, while the French language major had the lowest at 19 points.
If considering combined admission using the university's competency assessment scores, the benchmark scores ranged from 17,13 to 28,16.
