Vietnam Japan University drops 10 admission combinations

Vietnam Japan University, part of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, will eliminate 10 admission combinations for 2026, including several with informatics subjects.

Vietnam Japan University (VJU), under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, announced on 11/12 that it will maintain six admission methods for the 2026 academic year.

These methods include direct admission, evaluation based on results from Vietnam National University, Hanoi's HSA competency assessment exam, high school graduation exam scores, a combination of graduation exam scores with foreign language certificates, SAT scores, and a comprehensive assessment of applicant profiles through evaluation and interviews.

For admissions based on high school graduation exam scores, the university will utilize 25 subject combinations. This includes the introduction of two new combinations: D11 (literature, physics, English) and D12 (literature, chemistry, English).

Conversely, 10 subject combinations used in the 2025 admission cycle have been eliminated. These include: A02 (math, physics, biology), D09 (math, history, English), X02 (math, literature, informatics), X04 (math, literature, agricultural technology), X06 (math, physics, informatics), X12 (math, chemistry, agricultural technology), X16 (math, biology, agricultural technology), X25 (math, English, economic and legal education), X26 (math, informatics, English), and X46 (math, informatics, Japanese).

Nguyen Minh Phuong, Deputy Head of Training Department at Vietnam Japan University, explained that the eliminated combinations "were not effective." Admission data from last year indicated that some combinations received only one or two applications, with others attracting no applicants at all.

This adjustment also ensures Vietnam Japan University's compliance with admission regulations set by the Ministry of Education and Training. These regulations mandate that at least 50% of the total admission score for a major or program must come from common subjects across the selected combinations.

The list of expected admission combinations for Vietnam Japan University in 2026 is as follows:

For the admission method combining foreign language certificates with high school graduation exam scores, Vietnam Japan University will convert foreign language certificate scores into a score for the foreign language subject. This score will then be added to the results of the other two high school graduation exam subjects. The specific conversion method will be announced later, in accordance with Vietnam National University, Hanoi's regulations.

Applicants seeking admission via SAT scores must achieve a minimum of 1100 out of 1600 points.

For the interview and competency assessment method, prospective students must demonstrate good academic performance and conduct during the first five semesters of high school. Additionally, their average scores for math and literature over three years must be 15 or higher. Students who graduated from institutions abroad are required to have a minimum academic GPA of 2,5/4 or an equivalent score.

Applicants will receive points for academic achievements and foreign language certificates. They will also participate in interviews, write essays, or take multiple-choice tests, depending on the specific program.

The admission quota for Vietnam Japan University in 2026 is projected to be 800 students, detailed as follows:

In 2025, Vietnam Japan University admitted 750 students across nine majors and programs. The cutoff scores for these programs ranged from 20 to 22 out of 30.

Annual tuition fees are set at 25 and 58 million VND. These fees will remain constant throughout the entire course for students who successfully complete the standard training plan.
