Professor Doctor Chu Duc Trinh, Rector of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, announced this information on 3/9 during the matriculation day for over 4,000 new students.
The University of Engineering and Technology campus within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi urban area in Hoa Lac spans 30 hectares. While only about one-sixth of it is currently built, it already features complete office buildings, two lecture and practical halls, a multi-purpose building, workshops, dormitories, and various other facilities for students.
Consequently, starting this academic year, the university has relocated its administrative headquarters here, along with over 6,000 pieces of laboratory and practical equipment, while also having all first-year students study on this campus. This makes it the university with the largest student population studying in Hoa Lac within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) system.
All new students will complete all four years of their studies here, unlike some other VNU member universities where students only study the first year before moving back to the inner city.
"It is anticipated that by 2029, all students of the university, including both undergraduate and postgraduate students, will be studying in Hoa Lac," Trinh stated.
The UET Rector noted that the Hoa Lac campus offers a sufficiently large area, modern lecture halls, practical rooms, self-study areas, and sports facilities, all beneficial for students. Parents can also monitor their children's academic progress through the university's digital management system.
"This environment is designed to train excellent students, offering the potential to become an elite university," Trinh remarked.
Beyond its physical infrastructure, the University of Engineering and Technology focuses on connecting with businesses, especially those strong in research and development (R&D), to provide students with internship opportunities and practical experience.
Many universities move students outside Hanoi's inner city
According to the master plan, the Vietnam National University, Hanoi urban area spans over 1,113 hectares and, once completed, will accommodate 65,000 students.
This academic year, in addition to over 4,000 first-year students from the University of Engineering and Technology, the urban area hosts over 13,000 students from ten other universities, including: the University of Education, University of Law, International University, University of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Natural Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Foreign Languages, and University of Economics.
Students studying in Hoa Lac are primarily first-year students. The University of Education is the only one to bring all its students from various years, though their number is nearly 3,700.
