The Ministry of Education and Training will conduct a pilot program for computer-based high school graduation exams, aiming for a wide-scale rollout in April and May. Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of Quality Management, announced this on 10/4 at a conference discussing the organization of the 2026 high school graduation exam. He added that the ministry plans to test both the computer-based format and the exam content itself.
The ministry anticipates submitting a proposal for the computer-based exam to the Government this year. Local authorities must plan investments in school facilities, enabling them to host the computer-based high school graduation exam and support regular teaching, testing, and assessment activities.
This initiative stems from a Government request issued last September. It aligns with broader goals for comprehensive digital transformation, emphasizing the widespread adoption and strong application of digital technology and artificial intelligence in education and training.
For university admissions, some institutions have already implemented computer-based exams. Examples include the thinking skills assessment (TSA) at Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the competency assessment exam (HSA) at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In contrast, the competency assessment exam at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, which is the largest nationwide with approximately 140,000 candidates, continues to be paper-based.
