CNN reported that the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stopped Britney Spears around 9:30 p.m. on march 4 (local time). They filed a report at 3 a.m. on march 5, releasing her a few hours later.
Authorities had received reports of a black BMW 430i speeding erratically on U.S. 101 in Newbury Park, Ventura County. After stopping the vehicle, officers found Britney Spears alone inside, showing signs of drug and alcohol intoxication. They conducted a series of field sobriety tests. Her car was also towed. Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are awaiting toxicology test results.
A People source stated that after her release, Britney Spears expressed remorse. She is scheduled to appear in court on 4/5.

In an email to international media, Britney Spears' representative called the incident "an unfortunate, inexcusable event". The representative wrote: "Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law. We hope this is the start of changes that should have happened in Britney's life. We hope she receives the necessary help and support during this difficult period."
Additionally, the representative stated that her two sons – Sean, 21, and Jayden, 20 – will spend time with their mother. Both are her children with ex-husband, dancer Kevin Federline. "Her loved ones will create a plan that should have been in place earlier to help her get healthy", the email quoted.
