Hien Mai’s son graduates with honors from US university

Tony, son of actress Hien Mai, graduated with honors from the University of Southern California (USC), a top 100 university globally.

On 4/5, Tony donned his cap and gown, taking graduation photos with friends before the commencement ceremony. He pursued a degree in Economics for 4 years. USC was ranked among the top 20 universities in the US by Times Higher Education in 2021. The university placed 73rd globally in the World University Rankings 2026, according to Times Higher Education.

"Our family is very happy with his academic results. This has been a joyful and beautiful period for him after a long and demanding journey," Hien Mai shared.

Born in 2004, his full name is Nguyen Minh Tuan Tony. He was admitted to the University of Southern California in 2023. The actress stated that her family only hoped he would graduate on time, never expecting Tony to achieve an honors degree.

According to Hien Mai, Tony put in great effort to achieve such academic success. When he first started university, he struggled to keep up with his peers and experienced stress. At one point, Tony would study until 4h in the morning, losing sleep due to anxiety. "I was heartbroken to see him grapple with his schedule and discomfort. Fortunately, Tony adapted quickly and overcame the challenges," Hien Mai recounted.

The actress recalled a visit to see her son in 2025. She felt immense pride when she met a professor who told her, "Tony is my favorite student." Her son was also elected as the President of External Relations (public relations) for a student association at the university.

The family plans to reward Tony with a Porsche, his favorite car. While Hien Mai wishes for her son to pursue postgraduate studies, Tony wants to return to Vietnam to start his career and be closer to his family. "My husband and I only provide guidance; we don't pressure him. I believe Tony is mature enough to make decisions for his future," Hien Mai added.
