Seoul police announced on 29/7 that no charges would be filed against actor Kim Soo Hyun, according to News1. After an investigation, authorities concluded that suspicions of Kim Soo Hyun dating Kim Sae Ron when she was under 18 were unfounded.
The lawsuit, initiated in early 2025, accused Kim Soo Hyun of violating child protection laws. The plaintiffs, including the family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron and Kim Se Ui, owner of the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute, alleged that Kim Soo Hyun engaged in sexual molestation with Kim Sae Ron when she was 14 years old.
Kim Sae Ron's family and Kim Se Ui also claimed Kim Soo Hyun was "heartless and ungrateful", demanding Sae Ron repay debts and pushing her to a desperate state. Kim Sae Ron died in 2/2025, with police determining she "took her own life".

Kim Soo Hyun consistently denied the accusations. He stated he never dated Kim Sae Ron when she was underage, nor did he toy with her emotions or pressure her regarding debts.
At a press conference in late 3/2025, the actor said: "The late Kim Sae Ron and I once dated like any other couple, and we had a good relationship. However, after our breakup, we did not maintain regular contact, as communicating after a split can be awkward."
Kim Soo Hyun filed a countersuit against Kim Sae Ron's family and the owner of Garo Sero Institute, seeking 12 billion won (USD 8,1 million) in compensation.
In late May, Kim Se Ui was arrested on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act and the Information and Communications Network Act. Investigations revealed Kim Se Ui engaged in defamation and damaging others' reputations.
Investigators accused Kim Se Ui of using AI technology to simulate Kim Sae Ron's voice, creating and distributing a fake recording to harm Kim Soo Hyun's reputation.

Police concluded that Kim Se Ui's actions damaged actor Kim Soo Hyun's reputation, harmed his career and economic activities, and necessitated psychological treatment for the actor. During his interrogation on 26/5, Kim Se Ui did not admit guilt.
After over a year away from the public eye, his reputation affected by the scandal, Kim Soo Hyun returned to the entertainment industry in mid-July. Over the past two months, he has received numerous collaboration offers, including 40 film scripts.
