In the friendly match against Benin, a giant number 10 jersey with the word "Gracias" (Thank you) was displayed at Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires. In the 10th minute, matching Messi's jersey number, the match paused for the entire stadium to give the legendary captain a minute-long standing ovation. Fireworks were also launched.

Antonela Roccuzzo, along with her three sons Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro Messi, watched the friendly match. After the match, they went onto the field to bid farewell to fans alongside the football superstar. Messi announced his retirement from the Argentina national team on 31/8. "While this decision brings much pain, I depart in peace and pride for my complete dedication to the Argentina jersey", the player wrote in a heartfelt letter on his personal page.

Following her husband's decision, Antonela Roccuzzo shared her emotion as their three sons grew up following their father's footsteps: "You saw your father never give up. One day you will fully understand this great story; however, today, you are simply proud of your father".
