Nicola also starred in and wrote the screenplay for the film. However, Lola received negative reviews, with Guardian writer Kady Ruth describing it as "terrible" and "exploiting poverty to make a film."

Speaking with WWD, Nicola shared that she began preparing the script at 23, once staying awake for three days to write. She aimed to create a flawed yet kind character, believing that imperfection would always inspire her. Despite this, Nicola admitted she did not grow up like the protagonist and was prepared for criticism. "I am an actor. My dream is to see the world through many different lenses," she said.

Despite her promising career, the BBC noted that her relationship with the eldest Beckham son brought her widespread fame, especially after their lavish 2022 wedding.

The two first met at the Coachella music festival in 2017 but were in other relationships at the time. Two years later, they reconnected at a Halloween party hosted by actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
