Dinh Tien Dat recently released "Mui (t)huong," an R&B track, on 14/4. The song's title features clever wordplay, expanding "huong" (fragrance) into "thuong" (love or longing), reflecting its introspective lyrics about reluctance to depart. This release marks a continued effort by the rapper to explore new musical territory beyond his established rap and hip hop roots.
Following his "Toi 30" EP last year, Tien Dat has consistently pursued vocal training and songwriting, experimenting with genres like ballad, R&B, and lofi. He initially worried about audience acceptance, fearing his fans, accustomed to his former "Mr.D" persona, might not embrace his new direction. However, encouragement from family and colleagues alleviated this pressure. "I haven't received any negative feedback, which has reduced my stress since reinventing my style," the singer stated.
Fellow artists have commended Tien Dat's artistic evolution. Singers Phuong Thanh and Tuan Hung praised his strong vocals, noting his ability to maintain a unique essence regardless of genre. Musician Pham Viet Hoang, who has collaborated with the rapper for two years, highlighted Tien Dat's dedication and persistence in his return to singing. The music video for "Mui (t)huong" showcases his gentle and expressive vocal style, resonating with fans; YouTube user ShiGuu Jeong commented, "I appreciate how the singer constantly reinvents himself. I look forward to Mr.D's next releases."
Tien Dat emphasizes that his focus is not on competing with the new generation of Gen Z singers and rappers, but rather on ensuring his own artistry remains fresh. He admits that previously, he simply aimed to hit the right notes. After a year of intensive vocal training, he now understands how to infuse emotion into every lyric.
His participation in "Anh trai vuot ngan chong gai 2024" further refined his vocal and dancing skills. Tien Dat revealed that he had not considered returning to music after a decade focused solely on business. However, performing diverse genres alongside fellow artists on the competition stage helped him reconnect with and understand current market trends.
